Gas Leak and Gas Pipe Upgrades

Tracing and repairing gas leaks after the emergency service has made safe, and upgrading undersized pipework.

Overview

If you smell gas, your first call is always the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, not a website form. Once the supply has been made safe, a Gas Safe engineer is needed to trace and repair the leak before it can be turned back on. We also upgrade gas pipework that is too small for a new boiler or appliance, which is a common cause of poor performance after a boiler swap.

Common problems we deal with

  • Supply capped by the emergency service after a suspected leak
  • A failed tightness test
  • Pipework undersized for a new combi boiler
  • Rerouting gas supply during building work

How the work is done

  1. Tightness testing to confirm and locate the leak
  2. Repair or replacement of the affected pipework
  3. Sizing check and upgrade of supply pipework where needed
  4. Re-test, purge and relight of appliances

What you get

  • Supply restored safely after a leak
  • Correctly sized pipework so appliances get the gas they need
  • Clear explanation of what was found and fixed
  • Work carried out by a Gas Safe registered business

Gas Leak and Gas Pipe Upgrades: questions

What should I do if I smell gas?

Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. Open doors and windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, do not use electrical switches or naked flames, and leave the property if advised.

Why does a new boiler need bigger gas pipes?

Combi boilers can draw a lot of gas when heating water. If the supply pipe is too small, the boiler may underperform or lock out, so the pipework is checked as part of installation.
